Arrowhead || Canon EOS 40D/12-24mm | 1/6 | f/8 | ISO 100 | Tripod

My dad and I have been in Page, AZ for a few days on a field trip put on by the Wasatch Camera Club. This past Thursday, we went through Lower Antelope Canyon and it was fantastic. This is one of the many shots I’ll likely be posting over the next while from my trip to Page, AZ.

After looking at this, I decided to call it Arrowhead, this isn’t an official name that I know of, but it looks like one to me!

Schwabacher’s Landing – Cropped|| Canon EOS 40D/12-24mm | 1/8 | f/11 | ISO 100 | Tripod

A few months ago, I posted a shot at the Teton’s, Schwabacher’s Landing and Heather suggested cropping out the right corner. I had thought about doing it and just got around to it while I was browsing my images. So here it is, and I dolike it a little better this way.

If I am there again, I’d get there earlier and I don’t know that I’d use a graduated neutral density filter since I’m don’t like how the reflection is brighter than the sky.

Cape Cod

Cape Cod || Canon EOS 10D/12.0-24.0 mm | 1/45 | f/11 | ISO 100 | Tripod

This is from our trip to Boston. Lisa and I rented a car for the day to drive down to Cape Cod and it was quite a day trip. The sky was murky and didn’t make for a great color photo, but after converting to sepia tones, boosting the contrast, and adding a vignette it turned out to be a nice image. I submitted this one also in this month’s camera club competition and took first place in the open advanced division.

Post processing done in Adobe Lightroom.

Metate Arch

Metate Arch || Canon EOS 10D/12.0-24.0 mm | 1/125 | f/11 | ISO 100 | Tripod

This is a shot from a February trip to Bryce Canyon. One of the days we went on a bit of a drive to see Devil’s Garden in Grand Staircase Escalante State Park, we got there just before sunset. I took several exposures and used HDR and other post processing to give a more accurate picture of what it looked like when I was there.

I entered this in the Wasatch Camera Club competition in the assigned category “Foreground Framing”. It took first place, and Best in Show award (a first for me). I’m pleased the way it turned out. Another image I entered in the open category also took first place, I’ll post it another day.

Bryce Canyon in February

Snowy Bryce || Canon EOS 10D/28.0-135.0 mm | 1/3s | f/11 | ISO 100 | Tripod

Two years ago I was at Bryce National Park, the day we came home, it snowed. It was cold, but neat seeing these usually warm places dusted with snow.

Sparkle Flowers || Canon40D/EF100 Macro | 1/400s | f2.8 | ISO100 | Tripod

Another image from the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in New Jersey. I used off camera flash with a snoot to provide the narrow beam of light down the middle of the photo, I like how it made the flowers sparkle.

Camel on the Giza || Canon10D/EF28-135@28 | 1/180s | f11 | ISO100 | Handheld

Not my favorite time of day to be shooting, but I took what I could get! Oh, and if you ever get an offer to sit on a camel, make sure you’ve negotiated the price BEFORE you get on, otherwise, it makes it hard to get off!

Visitor || Canon40D/EF100 Macro | 1/400s | f2.8 | ISO100 | Handheld

This was one of the images that I submitted in the assigned category “Out of Place” in the competition this month. And I confess, this was not really a picture I loved, but it was the only one I could find that fit in the assigned category.

This one was I took this one in New Jersey at the winery last fall. This critter was hidden back under some leaves, and so I used off camera flash to try and brighten it up, unfortunately because of the angle it looks like on camera flash (which I don’t care for). It was pretty hard to get the right shot since he moved around a lot.

Out of Water || Canon40D/EF28-135@75 | 1/60s | f8 | ISO100 | Handheld

This was one of the images that I submitted in the assigned category “Out of Place” in the competition this month. And I confess, this was not really a picture I loved, but it was the only one I could find that fit in the assigned category.

This one was fish food for the walrus at Sea World in Orlando. Nothing fancy, but for some strange reason a strong smell is recalled when I see this photo :) .

Night Crawler || Canon40D/EF100 Macro | 1/250s | f8 | ISO400 | Handheld

Another submission for competition that didn’t place. But this was a very interesting spider. One night at my parent’s house, we found this spider out in the front that put up a huge web. My dad and I took some pictures, trying to figure out how close I could get and trying different flash angles, it was a fun experiment.

The next morning I went out to take pictures of the spider with some early morning light and it was gone, web and all. Oh well.
