Candelabras and Arches || Canon EOS 40D/EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM | 2.5″ | f/11 | ISO 100 | Tripod
OK, so I felt a little rebellious after being told I could use my tripod. After we made the rounds of the cathedral, we sat down and I got my tripod out again. I figured I’d only be a security risk if I was standing with my tripod (it is awfully easy to pick it up and use it as a bludgeoning instrument). Apparently they thought so too.

Notre Dame Stained Glass || Canon EOS 40D/EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM | 1/3 | f/11 | ISO 100 | Tripod
This is the image I managed to snap on my tripod before I was informed that tripods were a security hazard. It did prove very difficult to shoot, obviously impossible to capture the bright window with the cathedral walls. Either you get the glass and black everywhere else, or you get the cathedral walls and the glass is blown out.

I thought this one was hilarious and I would love to know the story behind it, but this particular king deserved a photo.

We interrupt the regularly scheduled Paris photos for Olivia. She has her 8th birthday coming up soon and so we went out for a little photo shoot yesterday to get some pictures for her baptism announcements. This one isn’t going out with the announcement, but I wanted to show it off anyway
We’re very proud of her, she is growing up unbelievably fast.
We shot this on a very bright sunny day, so we found some trees that provided ample shade, and used off camera flash for the lighting (580EX II and 550EX). Post processing in Adobe Lightroom.

Kings at Notre Dame || Canon EOS 40D/EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM | 1/200 | f/8 | ISO 100 | Handheld
Ah Paris. Everywhere you looked there was something fascinating and Notre Dame was no exception. We spent a fair amount of time here and it was here that I was first introduced to the “No Tripod” rule. Inside the cathedral I thought the stained glass was beautiful, and I thought it would be an interesting challenge to photograph. Since I didn’t want to get in the way of anyone, I went off to a less traveled corner and pulled out my tripod (taking care to not fully extend the legs so that I wasn’t in anyone’s way ). I managed to get a couple of shots before I was told to put it away by. Apparently tripods aren’t allowed because of security reasons. Oh well.
Anyway, this was outside (and no, I didn’t use a tripod, although I’m sure I could have since it was outside).

Wow, OK I’ve been a little absent from posting over the last while. I like to think that it’s because we have been adjusting to job changes, at least that’s what I tell myself.
This was from our hotel in Paris, leaning out the window. More to come sooner than the last one… I hope
